There are many elements necessary to create magnificent, unique and powerful orchestral music. Of course, one needs talent and true dedication, but also a charismatic leader with true passion and artistic vision. Even then, one might still find there something missing from this ‘secret formula’, necessary to unlock every detail for a desired performance. Something which can inspire, and make the orchestra breathe as one. Many say that the Estonian Festival Orchestra (EFO) has found that missing piece.
In 2011, when the two maestros – Paavo Järvi and father Neeme Järvi – returned to their loved summer capital to initiate Parnü Music Festival, it was an organic step to also form the festival’s resident ensemble now called Estonian Festival Orchestra (EFO). It was something of a local secret up until recently, but with recent debuts at Berlin Philharmonie, London BBC Proms, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and a tour across Japan’s most distinguished cities, the orchestra has quickly established itself in the international cultural scene.
What is the secret formula? The story of the EFO is all about friendship. The ensemble united leading musicians from top international orchestras with young, talented instrumentalists from Estonia. The weeks with the orchestra are all about seeking ways in which to inspire each other – from the initial energetic rehearsals through to the excitement on stage. The orchestral members often say that these musical moments are somehow unreal and unheard of.
The Estonian Festival Orchestra invites you to become a part of this unique formula. We offer you the invaluable opportunity to join the journey and share a mutually-beneficial long-term relationship with us.
